Chris ‘Darby’ Walters and Elliot Dale rowed 3246 miles from New York to the Isles of Scilly.

Ahead of a world record attempt to row from New York to the Scillies, Chris Watters helped prepare for his adventure by having Lens Replacement surgery with Optical Express.
“In 2014 Elliot Dale and I rowed a crossing from New York to the Scillies as a pair, it meant that I would be on my own on deck whilst we swapped shifts and needed to be able to read the instruments accurately whatever the weather. I decided to go for surgery. Not only did this enhance my everyday life but helped me get two world records and become only the third pairs boat ever to have made this trip.”
Two British rowers have set a new world-record after completing a 3,000-mile crossing of the Atlantic Ocean in 60 days.
Chris Walters and Elliott Dale, both 55, have become the fastest men ever to complete the journey in a modern ‘open class’ pairs boat.
The duo rowed 3,246 miles from New York to the Isles of Scilly to raise money for a children’s hospice. As they arrived at St Mary’s Harbour shortly after 10.30am on Wednesday, they were joined on their final few miles into the harbour by a flotilla of local boats and were serenaded with Frank Sinatra’s ‘New York’.
